Summary:
The boy was born with a Septal Defect (hole in the heart) and has to go through an urgent surgery at Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). The boy is the youngest among the four kids of the father who recently got a job in madarsa (jobless earlier). Father is the only bread earner of family as the oldest son is in 9th grade. The family is very poor and lives in New Karachi (a poor neighbourhood). AKUH gave them an estimate of 450,000 PKR (in Sept 2011) for that operation. But financial constraints restricted the family to go for an operation. They applied for AKUH’s welfare and later got accepted for partial contribution (AKUH’s welfare will contribute 200,000 PKR). However, they have to arrange the remaining 250,000 from their own pocket. The family has been struggling to arrange the remaining amount since then and that is causing delay in the operation.
The family doesn’t have any tangible assets that can be liquidated. However, they are asking support from their family members (who are poor themselves). I know the family myself and they are Safaid-Posh. When I told them that I will try to seek some support using internet they felt ashamed and said that this way people will know about their misery. Upon my assurance of the confidentiality and clearing that I will not be “marketing”, they provided me the documents.

It is to inform that AKUH has approved the remaining funding through their welfare program so the family doesn’t need any more money at the moment. The donation campaign has been canceled for this project.

So the members/donors of APPEC are humbly requested to donate generously and rapidly for saving the life of this young kid. 

 

 

Please note that the operation needs to be performed ASAP and the doctors are recommending it to be performed during February 2012. We,  therefore, are  envisaging a target date of 15 Feb 2012.
